My buddy and I just swapped a Jbody Ecotec into his '04 Cavalier. The new motor has 70,000 miles on it, has compression, and fuel, I think spark too. The plugs aren't wet when I pull them.
The motor turns over, but there's no kick, like it's starting. Newer motor. His starter and accessories. The timing hasn't changed. We didn't open up the motor. Ground somewhere maybe? I can think of two. The one connecting the valve cover to the head and the one that connects to the big bolt that holds the engine to the transmission. What else am I missing?
Are you sure it's getting fuel to the plugs? And did you take off any of the fuel system when it was put in? I helped a friend swap a V6 into his cavalier and we had the same issue but our problem turned out the be that we had the fuel lines hooked up backwards.
Yeah, it has fuel. I got it running. There's a sensor below the oil filter, I'm not sure which one it is, but I found it, plugged it in, and it started right up.
