So, Lanman31337's car is on the side of the road right now. his car apparently dies on him on the way home. he tries to start it, and it catches, but immediately stalls. he's tried the theftlock relearn, no dice. checked battery connections, all good. says the fuel pump is louder than usual, which i assume its the factory pump, and could be on its way out. BUT, i also lean towards ICM, as they dont like getting hot (and they do being on the back of the OHV) when they're long in the teeth.
SO. at this point, he's waiting on a tow home, then some troubleshooting. ANY advice, ANY experience is welcome in this thread.

lol I been going back and forth on facebook with him. The tow truck just arrived. From what he said I was thinking maybe the fuel pump but didn't that get replaced in April when you were over?

nosir. we replaced the rocker arms. twice. otherwise, nothing mechanically was changed on the car.

Yeah I have 1/2 a tank. Fuel pump primes. It'll roll over, try to start, and die on its face. Only way i can semi keep it running is if i pump the living bejesus out of it.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
at this point, i'm leaning towards either fuel pump or ICm. i could easily be wrong though. c'mon guys, lets keep this one running.

As I was driving home, it died. Not the electronics, just the motor. @!#$

Question. How long has it sat? Possibly some sediment plugging te pump?
if it were sediment, i'd think it would have happened earlier, as i think jeffrey's been driving quite a bit lately.
at the same time, fuel filter is factory. could have pushed it over the edge.

Very possible.
If the pump is louder it could be trying to pump against a blockage.
if it will stay running when you are goosing the throttle, have you thought about an IAC problem?
but i do agree with putting a new fual filter on that biznatch too.
would iac make it fall on it's face like that though?

could. only way to tell though is to only crack the throttle, as if to get a high idle (roughly 1000 rpm). if you can maintain a a low idle with the pedal, i would look at iac. otherwise, no.

My buddies cav did this before and it was the fuel pump/filter(it kinda sucks pushing a cav a mile or so while you are 1/2 drunk).

That's exactly what I was shooting for. My one older buddy has a buddy that owns a shop. First thing he did was ask me what the symptoms were. I told him, suggested the things I did, he said do I have a CEL? I said no. Then light clicked on, I said it's not going to be coils or else I'd have random cylinder misfire. He said exactly, it'll be one of the other, pump or filter, and to keep the warranty on the delco pump, to replace the filter. So it's getting towed tonight, should have it tomorrow.

filter. mine is doing the same thing right now, changed the filter, and it's a brand new car. also, battery is on it's way out. . . . mine would do this when I would have my alarm on when not driving, slowed down a lot when I stopped using the alarm.
My batteries are good, and the charging system is also good.

In my opinion....fuel filter, TPS sensors or IAC.
When my IAC went bad I didn't have a CEL.

I'm going to try fuel filter. MD - talk to me about the IAC - that's the air temperature controller to let it run rich or leaner, correct? Throttle position sorta makes sense.

iac is the pintle valve on the top/back of the intake plenum. it moves in and out to let air past to maintain a smooth idel. if it goes bad, or sticks closed, it will not allow enough air/too much air into the intake, and you'll have a high idle/no idle problem.
tps would most likely cause a CEL, easiest way to test is to disconnect it and see if it runs.

TPS is off of the throttle body. I'll have some daylight. I should try tapping the filter with a hammer. Crap, I need to figure a way to get home tonight too, and then to the place tomorrow.
IAC I can hit with PB blaster to shake it loose.

Ok so far, the fuel pressure regulator was goofed up. It wasn't running lean, it was running pig rich. Crank position sensor, next is plugs (they're shot) and a TPS (codes finally came up). I'm replacing the fuel filter cause it's cheap.
