i have searched and could not find anything on this subject. i need to remove my water pump on my 2200.
i have the head removed along with the alt and everything else needed to remove the head. apparently i have to remove the pulley to gket to one of the bolts for the pump. how can i stop the pump from spinning to remove the 3 bolts? since i have no tension on the belt . i havent tried to lodge anything in there yet cause its been raining for days now and i have no garage. so im just waitnig for the rain to stop. so i thought i would just asked while i wait for the rain to stop

2 ratchets latterally with sockets. And 2 long screwdrivers between then as in the repair manual.
Pretty easy water pupm removel job on 2200, Just unbolt the water pump bolts off, Then get a pair of locking vise grips on the lip part of the pulley, Rachet off the 3 bolts on the pulley then youre done.

I have a strap wrench, works wonderfully.
Alternatively take an old fan (serpentine) belt., loop it around the pulley, clamp a pair of vice grips on it tight around the pulley and allow the handle to wedge against a solid object as you undo the nuts, it's a poor mans strap wrench!

okay thanks guys. all these ideas sound good. i will give them a try in a few days. its suppose to rain for the next 3 days plus the last 2 days.
so ive had a over heating problem for a month or so. antifreeze keeps coming outta my res tank. i noticed some coming outta the weep hole on my pump too. is it possible that the reason its coming outta my res tank is cause my pump is bad. i tried a new cap. but i got it from a junk yard. it still didnt help with coolant coming from my tank.
i was stuck at a light and started over heating real bad. went through the light and pulled right over. but it was to late. my head gasket blew. it would blow coolant between the head and block when trying to start it. i just hope my head aint warped. it still looks good. and sits on a flat surface with no gaps or anything. dont have the money to take it to a machine shop. is there a easy way of checking to see if its warped?
if it is warped i will just be outta the money for head bolts. and the time i spent doing the work. it only took me about a hour and half to get off. ive done this before a few years back. so i know exactly what to do. and would my gasket still be good? i mean i plan on buying a new one. but if my head is warped and i realize it is will my gasket still be alright?
there was coolant in my cyclinders. none in my oil yet. but i figure if its in my cyclinders then its prolly in my oil. but last time i did this there wasnt any in my oil til after i got it started back up. but i will do a oil change when i finish it.
im just not sure why my car kept losing coolant. i was losing alot. like i had to add some every other day. so i was using water til i figured it out. cause coolant is kinda expensive. and now its getting to cold to just add water. so i need some help from you guys. i did a flush a couple years ago. i will do another one once i get this thing together
also i was losing coolant outta the pipe that connects to the head. i noticed it had a o-ring on it so i just used gasket maker on it. it stopped leaking from there. then it started leaking from the right top corner of my radiator where there is like a little nipple. i had wreaked my car about 4 years ago and it cracked there. i used some mixing putty. thats meant for plastic. and it worked til after i fixed the leak for the pipe that connects to the head. so i got the olded putty off there and put some new stuff on it. then i noticed it coming from the weep hole. it just seems like its finding any weak spots to come outta of.
so the list of new parts is:
water pump
head gasket
head bolts
oil & filter
coolant(plus a flush & burp it)
can you guys think of anything else i should do?
im gonna pull the stat to and just check it
i really need my car working right. i have a girlfriend and 17 month old that i take care of. her motor locked up in hers. so no car now.

Sorry about your troubles, life sucks sometimes and the worst things happen at the worst times!
Tell us more about your car. What engine, how many miles, hows it been running up till now, etc.
What you should replace while you have it apart can vary greatly depending upon age and mileage and also if you are going to keep the car for the foreseeable future.
For sure, adding some sort of high tech "goop" to a leak is poor at best. Always better to remove the offending part, clean it well, replace if if you must and reinstall properly with new seals.
Hoses and belts are the number one cause of highway breakdowns. While you have it apart, replace these if you've got the cash. If not, pray.
The heater core could also give you future problems, it's the same age as everything else that is going bad.
For sure a new water pump and thermostat as well as a NEW radiator cap.
Check the head very carefully for cracks, they often are around the exhaust valve seats. If any one cylinder is sparkling clean, no black, no carbon build up and the others are not clean, you've got a coolant leak into that cylinder, examine if VERY CAREFULLY. It may only be a bad gasket, it may be worse, much worse.

i have the 2200 its a 99 too. it has about 145k mile on it. it would run just fine except that it would start to overheat. all the cyclinders had coolant in them too.
im getting all the parts tomoorow. then doing it i hope the day after
I would take the head to a shop and ask if they would magna flux it to check for cracks and a straight edge. If they arent too busy they might do it for a small fee. Or offer to buy em a beer or two.
small price to pay to know for sure. I'd hate to do all that work for nothing.
