Quick background on the car. Purchased in 2007 with 7,xxx miles and the car is R-title. Hit in passenger front and repaired by a chevy dealer but I didn't not purchase it from them, but a private seller. Car has been good until recently. I'll list the problems I'm having as I don't know if they can be all tied together or not.
I have no daytime running light or low beam but the high beam works. Tried a new bulb and it didn't help. About 1 month ago (i post this on here) the total mileage jumped from 51,xxx to 419,xxx miles. Not sure if these two issues are related?? I also have a large EVAP leak somewhere so the check engine light is on. (I got a new gas cap, cleared code and then it was back about a day later.)
So about 4 days ago I got in to leave and the car sounded like it backfired just before it was ready to start. The car did not start at this time. I then tried it and it wouldn't start. I waited about 4-5 mins and then it started. Yesterday it sounded like it backfired again and then wouldn't start. I waited about 1 hr and nothing. Got it towed to local chevy dealer. Dropped it off about 8pm. They called the next day about 1pm and stated that the car started right up and has done so all day. They couldn't get it not to start. I don't have the paper with me but the test cost $69.00 and that stated that maybe the "security module" was bad. There was 2 codes, again I don't have paper so I don't know what they are right now. So I go to parts counter and he said the "security module" was discountinued?? Intresting if I would have told them to fix it and not have come when i did to pick up the car!!!!!! I think I would have just ended up with a higher bill!
So any ideas based on the above info??? Anyone here of this security module before or know where it is located?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The EVAP problem is most likely a plugged charcoal canister or a bad hose in the EVAP system.
The DRL and lowbeam problem is most likely a wiring issue somewhere and/or a bad switch.
As for the starting and backfiring problem..... is sounds like your engine is flooded... but with fuel injection... the only thing that can cause that is injector leak down... where the fuel leaks out of the injectors and into the cylinders when the car is off... but that shouldnt be enough to where the car wont start the second try.... maybe your FPR is bad also idk. If the security module (anti theft) is acting up... the car will start and run normal but then just itself off so that doesnt sound like the problem..
Either way... it sounds like a fuel issue.
Also.... how cold is it and is the car parked outside?
True weebel, cold weather can have an effect on it i know it did on mine.
It will happened again yesterday. No start. Ran fine from when I got it back from the stealership. no issues basically for about 20 days. Tried everything they said, even tried extra key. No backfire this time, just cranking forever. I forgot the paper again but I know the 2 codes were passlock data incorrect and something with theft detterant system...I don't think I listed them intially.

It's the cranking forever you gotta worry about, even though your problem and the one i had with mine are 2 completely different probs i lost a starter that way. My car only had it's problem when the engine was cold, like after it had been sitting overnight all day at work etc But come to find out starters for our cars aren't cheap.
Just wanted to let everyone know I got the car fixed. Well it's been starting for about 1 week now without any problems. Took it to a local chevy dealer where I know a couple guys, helped me a lil on the price but still ended up paying $341.18 for the ignition bypass lock to be changed. I guess the computer wasn't reading the code from the key so it was basically in theft mode.
Labor was $125.00
parts were $196.00
Just for future refrence if anyone else has this problem.

^ did you get the lights fixed and the odometer to read correctly also?
I had a similar problem with my ignition switch, but it was a very worn key... got a new one cut from the VIN number (at the dealership) and it runs like new.
Light is still not fixed...waiting for weather to break or a really warm garage and time to look at it. Odometer is also that same..reading 421,835 currently.
On the bright side the check engine light is still off so no evap code yet and it's been almost a week. He said he "looked" at it so I don't know if he did fix it or not. I will have to check in with him and ask but I don't wanna jinx it.
John: Where was you at prior, I would have tried that first.
