2.4 tensioner pulley substitution.
Friday, April 09, 2010 4:24 PM
I want to re-route serpentine belt to bypass AC compressor (bad clutch, and girlfriend cant afford to replace it right now).

Here is an example I found.

The problem I see with this photo is the grooved side of the belt runs on a smooth tensioner pulley, does anybody know a pulley that can be substituted?

thanks.

just leave it as it is and dont use the a/c until you can replace the compressor.

there really is no issue with running the belt that way, since it's only the tensioner. if it were a driven accessory, then i'd say don't do it, but you won't have any issues with doing this.

how do you loosen the tension tesioner? Manual says 1/2" breaker bar, or 18mm socket, I cant find a place to put either.

thanks so much for your help, you folks seem much nicer to a novice than the Quad 4 forums or Grand am forums.

you just use the bolt in the center of the pulley

Buy a $40 delete pulley and run the belt as GM intended it to be run.
