testing fuel level sender?

I had a problem with a sticky fuel level sender on my 2001 Cavalier. I have bought the GM Fuel System Cleaner Plus, its helped alot but I think it will need another treatment. I wanted to know how I can check it to see how to test it with ohm meter, I found the connection, its right by the fuel tank kinda near the passenger rear wheel. My service manual says to unplug it and probe it (the fuel level sender signal wire). However I am confused... should the ohm meter probes go into the male/female of the connection? Anyone ever test it?

Hey Jacob. I never tested the gauge. Mine stopped working properly long ago and I just use the milage trip to be sure. The instrument clusters blow in cavs. Its a work car so I dont care. Just posting to let you know that techron concentrate plus is the exact same as GM. GM and ACdelco just change the label on the bottle. You can get it at walmart for like 6-7 bucks, much better than 20 for the GM label. I use it every other oil change. It doesnt do much for the fuel gauge but its great for smoothing out the injectors. If you google the techron/Gm you will find postings everywhere that its the same and its the ONLY thing I will put in my gas. Good luck.
