96 Sunfire dash lights issue
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 5:34 PM
I have a 96 Sunfire, 2.2 , auto
When I put on the brake, the Airbag,ABS,Brake, lights come on
Sometimes the temp gauge and the Tach drop to 0
Once and a while it does the same thing by turning the steering wheel.
Where do I look?

Oh Yea I forgot to say that I had to change the clocking ring to get rid of the theft light and all of this was happening before that too

Yikes.
Sounds like a bad ground somewhere. Check all the grounds on the battery and where they all connect to the car. Not sure if Sunfire's have a bus terminal on the drivers side under the carpet? My Bonneville does, and when there was corrosion all my lights and guages were possessed.

Good luck

Ok, found a ground under the hood by the battery, all is working now. All I had to do was clean it up. Who designed this system ???
Thanks

OK, I'm having pretty much the same problem with my '96 Cavalier. I cleaned the ground by the battery about a month ago & this fixed it until yesterday. I re-cleaned the same ground, but no luck this time.

I was told it could be the safety restraint module, but I don't know where this is located. Anybody got a clue? Thanks.

I had to change the clocking ring to get rid of the theft light. It is the grey round thing under the steering wheel on the column I think the Haynes manual refers to it as the SRS Coil
