Well, I finally got my rebuilt engine put in the Sunfire about 2 weeks ago, Everything works fine, except I have one nagging problem I can't figure out. Once in a while when I am at a stopped with the car in drive and the brakes applied, the car will stall, just like someone shut the key off or it ran out of gas. It starts right back up as soon as I turn the key. Everything else in the car still works, gauges, radio, lights, etc. There is no pattern to when this will happen, but it is usually when the car is at operating temperature. There are no codes stored and when I hook our scan tool up, the live data all looks correct. The engine only has about 400 miles on it (2.2L) and was completely rebuilt. I ported the head, added oversize valves, and used the 93 oil pump, 98 pistons and 1.65 SBC rocker arms, but I doubt any of this is causing a problem. I also replaced all the sensors when I rebuilt the engine, except for the cam sensor. It looked like it had just been replaced when I got the car. Some days it wont stall at all, and others it will stall 2 or 3 times. I'm not using the A/C when this happens so that's not an issue either. The engine runs really nice in town and on the highway, but this problem is irritating me. If anyone has any ideas what might be causing this it would be greatly appreciated.
Make sure all the fluids are topped off....check the fuel system...maybe needs a new fuel filter?

Actually, I put a new pump and filter in the car right before we pulled the engine to rebuild it. All the fluids are topped off and were fresh when the engine was installed. The tank was flushed out because the car sat for quite a while, but everything is as clean as new now.
disconnect the negetive battery cable for 10 minutes and plug it back in. tell me if the problem is fixed. it worked for me when i had the exact same problem as you.
2 things I can think of. If its an automatic; maybe the TCC solenoid. Or you have a bad wire on one of the sensors that is shorting out intermittently. I would look really closely at all the wires where they connect to the sensors. Good luck w/it.
Thanks for the replies guys. I looked the wiring over pretty good when I had the engine out. Everything looks to be good, but that doesn't mean there isn't some hidden problem somewhere. I am kind of suspecting something with the TCC circuit also, but haven't dug into it any more in the past few days. It seems to not be doing it quite as much, but I haven't done anything to rectify the problem, so that doesn't make much sense. I wish the thing would store a code so that I at least have an idea where to start looking, but that hasn't happened.
