I came home from a trip sat morning and now there is a metallic chatter from the left (passenger) side of the engine. It was fine when I left, and with the radio up on the way home I didn't hear when it started but definatly noticed once I pulled in the drive and turned the music off. After checking I was really low on oil and needed to do a change anyway so today I changed the oil but the noise remains. After googleing some stuff it would seem to be possibly valves or timing chain prob?
If you could mute the noise, the car drives/revs completely normal, and hasn't been sounding or acting wierd at all until I got home and heard this noise.
Car is an '04 Cavy with 99k
How many miles on the engine? Timing set could be time to replace.
After looking at it a bit more, the sound is coming from the water pump/timing area. If it was the timing chain, it wouldn't just start making noise all of a sudden would it?
Yes, Especially if you have 100k, never serviced it before, and just came back from a trip.
Replace the timing chain before it grenades your engine.
Just to add to it....
This is pretty much my same sound/problem, coming from the exact same area.
Your text to link here...
Seems to be the consensus is the timing chain/tensioner....though in the comments somebody mentions stuck lifter.
Thoughts?
