My 99 ld9 has a rattle/knocking sound coming from the accessory side of the engine. The tensioner was visibly vibrating and when I removed the serp belt it went away. So installed a new tensioner and the noise is still there when the belt is on? Its a loud knocking and it is most noticeable when I blip the throttle in neutral or when I'm at part/low throttle cruise. It goes away during moderate acceleration and idle. What the hell is it?
Take the belt off and spin/wobble all the pulleys and you should find the culprit.
You were right. I should have inspected the ac pulley more closely.. the metal plate thing on the end of the pulley was loose. Do you know if this can be fixed or is it the beginning of the end for my ac compressor?

You can replace the AC clutch (Which is the metal piece I assume ur talking about). BUT I have heard there is a special tool needed to do this. You could also look into junk yards or someone selling one used and replace the whole unit, that might be easier then removing it replaing said clutch assembly and reinstalling it since your probably gonna have to remove it anyways. Goodluck!
