Hi
I need help finding out where the light release switch is.
Thanks

This is what I'm trying to find. When we open the trunk, a light comes on. There must be a mechanism of somesort that gets released once we open the trunk and turns the trunk light on. I'm trying to find this switch because my light doesn't always come on and I'm think it could be jammed and not fully released.
Thanks

On my 05, that light is controlled by a wire that plugs into the trunk's lock mechanism.
It plugs into the right side of it (when looking from the outside of the car).
I would be willing to bet the light is burnt out or on its way out. You could just try and replace the bulb. Or if you grab a test light, and see if your getting power there at the light, if not, find the wire that plugs into the lock and see if there is a bad contact in there or not.
The mercury switch that controls the light is mounted to the driver's side trunk arm. You need to remove the rear deck trim/carpet to get at it. It's black.
Would a bulb which is on its way out only light up when the trunk lid i 1/4 open? If I open the trunk further, the light goes off. Would this be a switch issue or a bulb or something else?

the switch probably not being attached correctly I'd think...

LOL, see this is what I get for not knowing exactly where it comes from. Opps, but unlike many others on here, at least I can admit when I was wrong. I guess ill look up things im not sure about next time, hehehehe. Sorry
There is a bundle of wires on the left side of the trunk lid. One of these wires is broken. It looks like it may be the reason I have no trunk light. I'd like to re-attach the wire. Would I need to pull out a fuse, will I get a shock if I don't pull out the fuse?

No you dont need to pull the fuse, just dont touch the side closest to the metal to the metal itself. Then if u do u will blow the fuse. Just strip the wire on both sides, and get a butt-connector and crimp it on, and heat shrink it if thats the kind you got, and done.
Where can I buy a butt connector? Can I get away with just taping them back together using electricians tape?

you can do that if its all u got. just make sure u tape it up good.
I need help. I opened up the hard plastic protector and found 5 wires. 2 wires (1 dark grey and 1 dark grey with a white stripe) were broken in half and 3 wires (not broken but all were cracked and the bare wire was visible). I stripped the ends of both the broken wires and taped them together the best I could. The one for the interior trunk light was a thinner wire and I was able to re-attach that one pretty good. However the thicker one, the dark grey one with the white stripe I couldn't twist them together as they were too thick so I made the two ends touch together and taped it. My remote trunk release works but I still don't have backup lights, I thought it was the bulbs so I changed them and still no backup lights. My question is which one of the 5 wires controls the backup light?

Supply side for backup light is
green
Okay, I guess I 'll have to check that wire more carefully as that green wire was not broken in half, just the plastic was broken. Would you know which fuse is for the green wire, I looked at the fuses but none of them are for the backup lights.

It's labeled TURN-B/U on the internal fuse box. But if that was blown, I don't think your signal lights would work either.
Could someone tell me how I could use a test light to check and see if the green wire is getting any power to light up the backup lights. I am at a lost as to why I don't have backup lights. I checked the wires and reattached the broken ones. The green wire is cracked but I taped it up.

If you're using a really basic clip on test light (I assume so because the alternative is pretty expensive) just clip the alligator clip to a clean piece of metal somewhere. The strut tower bolts should do the trick. Then put the point on the green wire (the copper part, hopefully I don't have to explain that
) Have somebody get in and switch the car into reverse and see if the test light lights up. If it does, then you know the signal has made it that far.
Sounds like something I can do, but I might screw up.
