Grinding noise while driving
Sunday, January 09, 2011 1:03 PM
So a few days ago i slid on the ice and slammed into a curb with my passenger front tire pretty hard. Now ever since i have a light rubbing/grinding sound with vibrations which gets worse around 55mph. There no effects on turning it doesn't pull and there seems to be no other symptoms. Any ideas? Due to work schedule and weather conditions haven't really had any time to get it in the air and look at it.

your wheel hub may be damaged.

If it changes with speed and no RPM, grinding, moaning, and vibrating all lead to wheel bearing in your hub. It's fairly simple to replace, was 40-50 dollars for hub assembly at advanced autozone when i did mine. For front wheels.. Take off the brake assemby, axle nut(hardest part) and 3 Torx screws T55 i think, then you pull it off but here is the trick. You do not need a hub puller, put the axle nut on halfway on and bang the nut with a heavy hammer but don't hit the axle or you'll ruin the threads. Nut's are easier to replace and even at that, the new hub assembly came with a new axle nut. Once that is out, you will most likely need a chisel since they're rusted on, once swift hit should knock it off....repeat the steps backwards to put the new one on.
