"99 cav died on road. Will turn over but not start. I have spark. Doesn't seem to be getting fuel. Tried to put Fuel pressure gauge on shrader valve but it won't screw on. You can hear fuel pump run & when I replaced the fuel filter I checked & it is pumping gas. Just don't know if it has enough pressure. Can the regulator cause it to not get fuel? Is there an adapter needed to connect FPG?
Thanks for your help.
Sounds to me it could be a pump issue. The shrader valve should screw right in. or clamp piece of fuel line hose to the line. I would denifitly get a fuel pressure test done, That will narrow down youre trouble shooting.
Good Luck.
The valve next to the FPR appears to be plastic. It seems to have different threads than my gauge.
Valve I talked about above is something to do with the egr. I don't see away to check pressure. Any ideas? What are the symtoms of a bad crank sensor?
fuel pressure at key on is 42. I think this is within spec. I have a small leak at the filter though ):
Got a set of Noids and checked the fuel injectors. They all had signal (flashed) while engine cranked. I checked spark at plugs again & this time they were weak (yellow spark) not blue & strong. I did a compression test & the numbers are low - 60psi but my battery is weak & the engine is cold so not sure if this test is reliable. I'm thinking it's ignition related but I'm lost at the moment. Any ideas?
Checked the coils & they are OK. Checked connections again. Put 3 gallons of gas in just to be sure it wasn't out. Hate to say it but--I give up. Going to have it towed to a shop.
update: Shop checked fuel, injectors, ignition & found no problems. Checked compression: 30-0-75-85psi. Not good. Need engine rebuild or another engine. If i get a used engine, will I need to get the pcm also? Anything else?
Talked to mechanic that will swap engine for $800 including engine from '99 cav with 96k. Hope to confirm tomorrow.
if you notice issues get the computer flashed, as sometimes engines will have slightly different parameters through a year as its tweaked through production. think of it as why a paint colour is different at the start of the year and the end of a year... they add little things here and there.
Owners of the car took forever to make up their mind to get it fixed. Then mechanic took his time getting back to me. Now he wants $1100 & we get the engine to him. After we had a few WORDS, he said he would talk to the shop owner & call me tomorrow. I'm about ready to do it myself.
