hi guys, my gf's 04 cavi with ecotec 2.2. i have been noticing her bottom of her oil cap looked like this the other day before she got her oil changed:
and i also took notice there was a very little of that stuff on her dip stick. so i went ahead and cleaned the bottom of the cap, the dip stick, and drained the old oil and changed the new.
she is now 58 km's into this oil change and the bottom of her oil cap is starting to have this kinda white on the outter edges of it. this might be condensation though where it only drives short distances in town and not driving it too much?
my car (05 cavi) get drove about the same as hers, and i checked my oil cap and it looks fine.
what should i do from here?
Well it could be using cheap oil,And maybe just from not getting up to good operating temps....
I would check to see if there is coolent loss,It could be head gasket...Check to see if it is running hotter than normal....But have not seen that happen on a eco yet..
Best of luck hope it is nothing major.

mobil 1 5w30 oil we just put in it, she bought the car second hand a month ago. maybe i should take it for a long drive? the coolant seems full ever sense she got the car, the car never gets hotter then half way.
so if its not loosing coolant, then it cant be the headgasket correct? moneys is a little tight right now or we would take it to garage. thxs , shawn
also, i just went to take her to work in the car and came back and pulled the cap off, on the outside edge of the bottom there is a little white color, and seems there might be condensation, as there seems be very wateryy liquid a little on the bottom of the cap. i smelled the cap and it doesnt smell sweet, i just smells like oil.
Check the coolant to see if it's dark(er than normal)... Just based off of that picture, I'd say you've got a blown head gasket, and it could be leaking oil in to the coolant, more than coolant in to the oil. Either way, watery/milky substance in the oil =
not good

the coolant seems a light color, and smells like just plain coolant. im wondering whether she shouldnt drive it till it gets checked out or what to do next? seems like there is always water running off the bottom cap too when i take it off. and inside the motor from the cap i can see a little of the yellowish stuff that was on the cap before oil change
might this even be "sludge" from previous owner never changing oil often?
thanks so much for your help, shawn
mobile 1 means nothing also CHEAP OIL wont cause that. 5W30 has to meet certain expectations to be approved for use and anyone that thinks spending 10 a litre is better then spending 2 a litre is fawked. some oils are different depending WHAT YOUR DOING such a royal purple and such but conventional oils are all the same.
no idea why people think mobile 1 is the answer to there problems (ITS OIL) i run cheaper oil and change it every 3000km fresh oil is way better the expensive oil that you can run for 10 000km
you sir have water getting into the engine could be a head gasket or could be the water pump either way you should find it before the motor is fawked cause that happened to mine. if the car sat for a while it could have condensation in it i would get that oil out ASAP and get new stuff in
