hey guys, i was talking about this on another post but wanted to make a post directly about this. i need a list of what NEEDS to be replaced when putting a junk yar motor in. heres everything i know about the engine. came out of the same exact car a 96 cavalier 2.2ohv. has 132k on it and just had a tune up and timing chain done before the car was wrecked. so far i figured i would get oil filter antifreeze power steering fluid brake fluid. rear main seal and tranny input shaft. thermostat and gasket and some sealant. is there anything im forgetting? please know im on a tight budget so things like hoses plug wire spark plugs im taking off the old motor since it was all fairly new. let me know of anything else and why i need it. thanks

dont think you need brake fluid at all
front and rear main seal(do when motor is out)
tranny input shaft(when tranny is out)
Oil - cheap oil for first run/warm up to flush, then drain and fill with better oil
2 oil filters, again first one can be cheap
2 gallons coolant maybe more
power steering fluid (one of those bottles that say will fill reservoir will be plenty)
depending on whether the new motor came off an automatic or not, you may have to swap flywheels with yours

those are probably the only things you "need", i mean you really dont need the shaft and seals but you're better off doing them since you dont wanna pull the motor again just to do them
you dont need to, but you probably should do the clutch, get a kit comes with clutch disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing, maybe fly wheel, ive changed clutches without touching the flywheel and they worked fine, as long as it doesnt look too bad

thermostat/gasket
water pump/gasket
serpentine belt
serpentine belt tensioner
all those are fairly easy on the ohv motor so if you're on a budget, i wouldnt worry about them, just don't let it over heat

that's a decent list i thought of real quick, i think thats it though, ill let other fill whatever i missed or whatever is missing or dont bolt up, you have the old engine to take parts from, if you're not having a shop do it, get some Pb blaster for those exhaust bolts will work wonders
