Well last year my ac was toast so I replaced the compressor along with a few other parts. It seemed to work great for the first month or so after I had it vacuumed and recharged and then its already working its way downhill again. It worked flawlessly yesterday for about 75 miles and then it stopped working again. Now the only way to get it back on is to rev up the car to 6k+ and throw it into the next gear quickly which causes the compressor to kick back in.... is it over pressurized or underpressurized? or was it a junk compressor that I bought?
It was way over pressurized so i let pressure out then recharged. After doing that it worked for about 30 mins flawlessly then back to the same old @!#$. Everything on the a/c is less than 2 years old.
What are the high and low pressure readings? Maybe the oriface tube is clogged?

Low side is showing 35-40 lbs which is what the can recommended at the ambient air temp , not sure about high side where do I measure that? Also I'm measuring with the tube for can is that ok?
Just like a residential air conditioner, the compressor doesn't need to run all the time. As long as you are getting cold air from the vents is the main thing.
but when it kicks off it never kicks back on. IIRC Cav/sunfire compressors never kick off.

i dont think our system uses a compressor with a variable swash plate. it will kick on and off. check the high side pressures. might be getting to high and being switched off
Hmm, Im going to take it back to the ac place I had it vaccumed and flushed at.
You can get some AC guages from Harbor Freight for cheap. Just don't ever have the high pressure side valve on the gauge set open when you are charging with the engine running. The can will blow up in your face. You should see around 200 PSI on the high side if its working correctly.

Oh and the high side is up on the line by the radiator pointing down toward the ground. Not easy to see. And 40 PSI on low side is good.

This is way late but noooo. Putting it in first and getting the rpms up then putting it into second. It ended up being a junk compressor. After about 2 years the 'new' ebay compressor completely locked up
Already installed a brand new compressor from autozone this time (not the remanufactured). If it happens again I'm getting a bypass pulley and sweating.

I just got the shorter belt for mine, and bypassed the a/c entirely. No pulley to buy or anything, just the non-a/c belt and the car runs great.
