Hello and thanks for letting this noob register
Here's the issue and forgive me if this has been covered but search didn't turn it up...
My wife rear ended an SUV in her '00 Sunfire (2.2l SE) and slid under the bumper enough to push back the radiator a bit and also set off the airbags. As far as I can tell, all fuses and electronics except for the headlight and fan wiring looks good. The ground from the motor to the battery is still in good shape. All fuses in both the interior and in the engine compartment look to be good. However, when I hook up to a good battery, I get absolutely no power in the car, gauges, starter, anything. I am trying to sell the car for salvage/parts but no one really wants to touch it unless I can get the motor started.
I've called the dealership wondering if there is a circuit that will kill all power when the airbags deploy. They told me no such circuit exists. Is this true? Is there a reset of some sort or can someone here point me in the next direction to look? If the computer is toast, would this be a symptom? Thank you so much in advance!
You could try putting power directly to the wires on the starter.. that should/would power up the circuits.. It could be that your starter solenoid was damaged, that might not let the power flow.
I thought that airbags being deployed (in some vehicles) would disable them. But then again, we flipped a chevy truck a year and a half ago and it was still running after we landed and airbags out..
The wiring for the computer runs along the bottom of the rad support bar... so in a front end collision, if the lower part of the rad area is damaged... you could have wrecked the wiring that goes to the PCM (in the front right corner of the car, in front of the wheel.)
Time to pull out the meter.
I appreciate all the replies but I ended up selling it for pennies on the dollar last night. I kinda lost the will to mess with it after my ex punched me in the eye and drug me down the road in her civic Saturday night but that's another story for another day and thread. Needless to say, I now have a broken hand so I just let it go. Again, I thank you and had pulled out both front wheels and inside the fenders (plastic shield or cover whatever) but didn't see any damage to any wiring. I didn't use a meter, my trusty Field Piece (like a Fluke) is in pawn. My losses I guess.
