I came across a Sunfire today thats in beautiful condition body wise, but the 2.2 thats in it is garbage. The owner was going to junk it for 250$ and I gave him 300$ and am having it towed home Monday.
I know where there is a GT with a 2.4 4spd in it that was hit drivers side and isn't economical to repair. He wants 500$ for the engine/transmission together, 82k which is very reasonable in my opinion. Both cars are 1998s.
I currently have 2) 2.4 GTs and am familiar with them. What I am NOT familiar with is the difference between the 2.2 and 2.4 so if anyone could make me a list of what else I need to pull from this donor car to drop this engine in I would greatly appreciate it. Ive swapped other motors, but they were always the same as what came out originally.
I'm assuming I'll need a set of new 2.4 motor mounts. But is this an instance where I need the ECU, PCM, and BCM from the 2.4 as well? Are there more/less sensors or alterations needed to be made to the stock wiring harness? Id like to just swap the wires to the ends needed to fit the 2.4 sensors and would rather not pull the whole harness. but I will if I have to. I looked on the FAQs section but it only briefly explains how to do the swap, and mainly focuses on the 5spd aspect of the swap.
Like I said if somebody could make me a list of what I need I'd greatly appreciate it.
No criticism on engine or transmission choice please. This is what I'm doing, I just need more information on the changeover.
