My cav is chewing up axle seals on the passenger side on the transmission.
This will be the third seal in less than 8 months ~5000 miles. At first i thought it was crappy quality aftermarket so I got an GM seal. Now this one is leaking too.... Both times I cleaned up the axle where the seal sits, nice and smooth.
I can't tell if it's seeping from the axle hole or if it's coming from the transmission housing.
Is there any kind of problem with the transmission housing being a problem with these seals?
Or am I just looking at getting a new axle? Am I doing something wrong when I install it? I mean i take the old one out, I make sure the bore on the transmission is smooth which it was both times. I clean up the axle shaft. Tap the new seal in lightly, put the axle back in and done.
Do I need to grease this thing? I mean... I'm confused.
^^ I think I'm about at that point where I need to replace the axle. I've cleaned up the axle surface both times nice and clean, but it's not looking good at 100k miles.
Eh... Shes getting at that mileage now. Just put a starter in her. Axle now, i'm sure clutch is soon. No matter, I still love my cav.
Okay, thanks for the tips, I'll double check my work this time, if not triple check.
Hey if your looking to get a new axle i bought this 1 for my 97 2.2ohv 4sp .....if u can use it. pm me
Actually I can't. I have the short/long axle manual transmission, and the axle I'm having problem with is my long axle on the passenger side.
Thanks for the offer though.
welcome, its been sitting around the shop and i have 2 new axles so yea..lol
dont dis on your car cuz it just hit 100K man. Just keep up with it and you'll be jsut fine, i just turned 246K on my 01 z24. original clutch and everything but a water pump & timing chain at 229K last october along with heater hoses & radiator hoses for preventine reasons. still runs amazing!
^^ no worries bro.
I'll hate on my cav and hump her in the same second!
I love j's. I just love them. There is no explanation why.
