Need a 2.2/2200 guru.......
Wednesday, January 25, 2012 1:09 PM
I hate these engines but due to a customer wanting to stay stockish, she has 2001 Sunfire with 2200 engine that she cooked by overheating, and I have a 1998 Sunfire sitting here collecting dust, what are the differences? I know head is a bit different due to egr and no egr, and they both 2200 engines, she would like to take my old sunfires engine and install it to the 2001 is there anything else extra that needs to be done or can I do like the 2.4 and use same exhaust mani gasket to block off the egr?

The 98-01 2200 should be the exact same motor.

95-97 - Same LN2/2.2L
98-01 - Same LN2/2200

There might be some slight changes but all parts between these motors are interchangeable.

It will swap right in. Did the opposite swap a year or so ago, 01 engine into a 98 sunfire. All the sensors were the same, same as the wiring.
