so the waterpump and harmonic shafts aredriven by a seperate chain. i didnt get one in my kit. should i replace it?
If you are replacing the timing chain itself then I would say go ahead and replace the others as well, it would save you time in the future since you'll be working in the same area. I regret not rplacing mine when I had the front engine cover off.
Ya I would say the same, assume we are talking about the ECO?
The guys at Moon's told me you guys were the 4 banger experts and I just found this thread on a search and am changing my chain set out at 170K 2.2 echo. 2003 So where are you guys getting your kits from? Also what all are you replacing? Water pump Timing set, balancer and chain all new gaskets of course. It was also suggested that I have the pan gasket changed at the same time. Anything else I missed? This motor has been nearly flawless and I want to keep it going on for at least a few more years. Also are there any stickies or how to's you can point me to. I have a good wrench doing this for me but he has never done a timing chain on an eco so I want to have everything to hand over to him. Thanks.......
Yea, I know it's a year later and I can't put it off anymore. I have to do this sometime this Summer. So where are you guys getting these timing chain parts kits ? I hate to toss money at the Stealership for parts if I can possibly do it but don't want cheapo aftermarket stuff of unknown origin for internal parts so where are you guys getting your stuff for Ecotechs???? Thanks.
Try partsdinosaur.com. He sells quality parts and is always up to par with different designs, new and improved designs, etc... I ordered a timing belt kit with the hydraulic to manual tensioner conversion for a 420a eclipse that I used to have as well as a timing belt kit for a 4g63t eclipse. Everything is packed nicely and shows up on time and he is quick to respond to emails, etc...Trustworthy company with qaulity parts. I think he mainly sells PCI timing kits and tensioners. I used the PCI kit on my 99 z24, has about 2000+ miles since the install and so far so good ! It came with the cam sprockets, chain, chain tensioner, and chain guides as well as GMB water pump.
