ok, so, i've owned my 2000 2.2 auto cavi for about 4 years or so now, and i usually get between 300-400 miles per tank(with 206000 miles on the clock), depending on driving habits. i just got about 2 weeks ago, a 2001 z24 auto with only 116000 miles and i struggle to get 280 per tank...is this the norm with this engine? granted, it is a bit heavier with power everything, but i doubt it should make THAT big of a difference. air filter is clean, ill check the plugs next time i'm at work...oh, and it doesnt sound too particularly healthy...although i've never driven a twin cam car before...it may just be how this engine sounds. it def. pulls harder than the 2.2, but idk how much more its supposed to pull. kinda ignorant about this engine. no cel, no misfires. any ideas?
Dave
What kind of driving do you do? highway..city? both. ?? I have a 01 z24 with 252K and most highway and a bit of lights i get about 330-360 before the light comes on.
I do mostly highway with some light city driving. Same conditions in the 2.2 and I get 300-400 depending on how hard I drive the car.

So it does look like this 2001 gets 10% less gas mileage than the older 2000 with a motor that is 10% smaller,
but both of these assume it's a 4-speed auto. In 2000 the 2.2 looks like you could choose 3 speed auto or 4 speed auto.
It's strange, but same with mine.
Mine is even older, it's a 1997 cavalier 2.2 with 5 speed Manual,
supposed to get 22 city, 26 combined,
33 highway. That's good, right? except if for some strange reason I want a newer one,
say a 2001 2.2 with 5speed manual, I would get worse gas mileage 20 city, 24 comb., 30 highway
and this 5-speed is not even with a bigger motor, it's still the 2.2!
Hmmm, I didn't know its supposed to only get 26 highway
my 04 isnt far off from that...with what I thnk is abut an 11 or 12 gallon tank, i get about 300mi every tank before Ive gotta fill up. Thats only about 25, which is about right. This may change after this weekend when I install a blower...supposedly you can gain some MPG if you stay...if you...if you stay...haha i cant say it...if you stay off the accelerator! lol
04 Cav. 2dr. 5spd. My DD. 'Nuff said.
