hey everyone,
so i did some searching around and cant seem to find anything on the problem that i am having right now. i have an 04 surefire (ecotec) 191XXX km on it and when ever i go to fill my car up at the gas station the car wont start on the first crank. Then i crank it over again and give it a gas (right to the floor) and it will finally catch and fire right up (after about 5-7 seconds of turning the engine over).
After this happens i dont have any issues with it starting at all. I've tried going to different gas stations and have still had the same problem (normally go to shell for gas). No matter how full or empty the tank is it always does it and the odd time if i am stopped on a uphill it will stall out but starts up again after 4 or 5 turn overs when i go to restart it. its been doing this for 5-6 months now, and I was talking with my instructor (basic mechanic college) who also worked for a gm dealership for 20 years and doesn't seem to think that it would be the fuel pump, but i cant seem to think of what else it would be? has anyone else had this issue and maybe shed some light on the situation for me?

fuel pump check valve possibly.
prime the system before starting the car.
turn the key to run and let the fpump run for 2sec then turn key off. repeat 4or 5 times then start the car.
So, you're in an automotive school? Why don't you look at some data on a scan tool and see how it compares to specs. Fuel trim, fuel pressure, and so on. Also, how old if your fuel filter? Any check engine light on?
were doing data retrival in the next few weeks so i was planning on putting it o n the scanner to check all that out. fuel filter has never been changed, and no check engine.
