URGENT!!!! High Oil Pressure URGENT!!!!
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 8:40 PM
For the second time in 2 months, i have blown my real main seal. The first one was the original stock for the motor 126k miles. The new one is a GM OEM one, that was put in in the last week of June. The only thing to change since all this has happened, is that I had a clutch put in at a local shop. The shop damaged the first seal, and replaced it free of charge, and now this seal is bad too? Also, in between seals, i noticed my oil pressure gauge reading high on cold start longer then normal, and higher then normal while driving, but only by 3 or 4 psi. It would also peg 80PSI while driving sometimes and stay there no matter what RPM or speed, and then just jump back to "normal" for the rest of the drive. I thought it was a faulty OP sender. Could i have been wrong?

Causes? Luck of the draw? high oil pressure? blockage some where?

My best guess would be faulty sensor or not very accurate. Also as was mentioned in the other post oil pressure will not affect the rear main that is crank case pressure. And as was suggested i would look into a catch can and looking at how you have your PCV set up. As I'm sure you know our PCV system operates on vacuum without it your pressure is going to build and possibly cause some damage.

Typically your supposed to run either or.

Either a closed pcv setup or vented but not both from my reading.

Stock GM says the Ecotec oil pump can make up to 125psi, so I do not think it is a pressure issue. I think more of a install issue.

^^ I agree.

I dont think oil pressure is the issue though that your having. Its going to be installer error and possibly higher then normal crank case pressures. But id guess installer error.

On the actual seal itself.
