Thermostat housing - Oil leaking?

2001 2.4L Cav - I have a "major" oil leak from what looks like my thermostat housing (plastic part on side of cylinder head.) This part has a large connector for the coolant, a sensor, and "maybe?" a tube that circulates oil? Is this correct? I don't know if the leak is caused by a bad hose at that point, but is this likely? No coolant is leaking though...

Post a picture. Had to get a picture of exactly what are you telling us.

A thermostat housing isnt going to leak oil, it is obviously coming from higher up and dripping onto the housing

What he said... only coolant goes through the water outlet. clean everything off with parts solvent and rum the motor for a while and watch where its coming from. My bet would be on cam tower gaskets

Yep, thanks guys! It was the oil sending unit that went bad (right above.) $10 later I'm good to go!

I know. They call it the thermostat housing, except that it doesn't house the thermostat! The T-stat on this car is at the water pump (where even GOD can't get to it!)
