A very loud lownmower. One friend described it as sounding like a hellicopter.
I was driving in the city around 50km/h and I suddenly heard and fealt a clunk. Immidiately after my car sounded like a lawnmower on steroids. Just soo soo loud. It smells like one too (even inside). It also has less guts now, definately lost some power from whatever happened.
Got any ideas?
It's a 1995 Cavalier 2.2L
Thanks
Check your exhaust for breaks... are there any sounds coming from the motor itself?
Have a nice day.
Flexpipe break, and hit the cradle?
"If I'm not back in 5 minutes...just wait longer"
SUBIE MOD!!!!!
could have broken rings/ rings lands, and or pistons...
I would def check your exhaust system front to rear.Broken exhaust parts like manifold gasket(exhaust) or cat convetor or muffler can all cause racket.Could be anything in this area as suggested.Just a suggestion and doing a visual and car running at idle maybe you can narrow it down. The smell leads me to think cat convertor or at least a big hole in the piping or worse case exhaust manifold gasket.(if that is worst case) idk with the newer js myself.
I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, I have just been driving my truck. But I will later today hopefully.
The sound does seem to primarily be coming from under the hood. I did have my exhaust fall off 1 1/2 ago and it wasn't as loud or rough. (broke off from the cat back).
anyways...thanks so far guys.
If it broke towards the front it will be louder and possibly be banging around on the subframe area
Have a nice day.
So I figured it out as soon as I looked under the hood for the first time. (when it originally happened it was pitch black out)
One of my spark plugs was completely disconnected. Not just the wire, but the whole plug had somehow unscrewed itself while I was driving and was just dangling there.
I can't figure it out, I changed my spark plugs nearly 2 years ago and no problems since.
weird...At least it was a 10 second fix.
It happens, my friend had the same plug blow out twice on his grand am. The ford 5.7 tritons are notorious for it as well. Make sure tge threads in the hole are good, it may need helicoiled if they are damaged.
Have a nice day.
