Hello I am needing some help I can't seem to figure out what the heck is wrong with my 2002 Chevy Cavi with a 2.2 (non-ecotech). This is the second time it has happened but when I try to fill up at the gas station it only fills the filler neck with fuel. If I get under the car and squeeze (or more so pump) the rubber hose before the gas tank itself the fuel will drain into the tank, or if I stick a screwdriver between the rubber hose and the metal hose of the filler neck it will fill. It almost seems like the tank isn't releasing the air when the gas goes in but I have checked the lines and dont seem to be able to find any kinked/clogged lines....Does anyone know what the heck is wrong with this thing????
when filling the tank air must vent out the canister vent valve. Any blockage from the tank vent hose, canister, vent valve, vent valve hose will cause slow tank filling. Any EVAP codes set?
lol mine does this too. I take a trip around the block and come back and then it fills fine. Its a huge pain in the rear, especially if you prepay. LOL.
Im too lazy to fix it, since a quick drive usually clears things up. Only does it about once a month though.

Ive noticed a few times I go to fill up the handle releases and stops pumping only a few dollars into it. Then even if Im holding it it'll stop. Even if i pull it out a little and try filling it up. then other times its fine.
Not sure what the issue is, I just keep filling it up and stand there pissed off and want to do a Zoolander with the pump nozzle lol

All my cars do that at sunoco, 2002 s10 extreme, 89 z24, 2000 z24, 87 fiero gt. If I go to Hess, turkey Hill, Sheets, wawa, BP, they all work fine. It is only sunoco around here that does it. I can only get $8-$15 worth of gas before it stops. I think there is a problem with their pumps so I never go there.

could be the vent tube, or maybe he purge vent solenoid in the canister or the canister itself. I'm surprised there isn't a code set, I think its a p0440, good luck on this.
ok here it is i checked the purge canister and everything around it it checked out fine. got the gas tank down thought something was pinched or something ran a camera snake down the filler tube all clear. then as a last ditch effort tried to blow in the filler hose at the tank couldnt do it after somemore looking there is some type of valve right inside the tank. after poking around inside there it moved evidently it was just stuck. a side note this car just got out of a 6 year stay with no engine
Our cars have a valve at the top of the tank to prevent someone from putting a hose in and sucking fuel out. Like a big check valve, I bet it is stuck closed.

i dont know if you can do this but try to unclamp the hose from the filler tube and blow into it if you cant its the valve right inside the tank its just stuck put the handle of a screwdriver in and tap it should open hope that works....
