Hey guys, been a member of Jbody for about five or six years now. my ride is a 99 z24 with some minor mods. after five years of owning the car im looking at a rebuild or a third engine. The first engine spun a rod bearing at 300k kms and rather than rebuild i decided to replace it and ended up getting a 99+( or 2000) ld9 2.4L. I'm currently in my second year of college for auto mechanics, and have a fair bit of knowledge though i've never worked on this engine before. the second engine has since blown a rod. so here is my question. compared to other older and more simple engine designs, how hard would an ld9 rebuild be for someone with limited knowledge, im in no rush to have it back on the road and my biggest reason for wanting to rebuild is i want to build it up proper, make it a more reliable engine and maybe add a bit of power. i could easily pick up another 2.4 and swap it in cheaper than a rebuild but i also see myself learning a lot in the rebuild which excites me and could help me later in work/school. would really like to build this beast up i love the 2.4's.

any rebuild tips, guides or suggestions on key upgrades would be very appreciated. again i am planning to rebuild it over a period of time so even with limited knowledge im hoping i can learn over time and make it happen.

My advice to you is to get the rotating assembly blueprinted and balanced, and the block properly decked. This will give you a higher revving engine and more power. Maybe a mild pair of cams?

i was in the same position 3years ago..also 99 Z24 2 motors let go rods broke got a hole in the block....first time rebuild drove it two days same thing happened.. after serious investigating found out the problem is the stock oil pump... if your gonna stay with the LD9 i highly recomend the 2.3 pump conversion..
