Hello all, I am new to forum! I just bought a 1996 sunfire with the 5 speed! I have never owned a car like this before, i just always drive trucks! It has a few issus that ide like to resolve, none of them keep me from driving it! First issue is at stop lights the cooling fan for the radiator will not kick on, I replaced the relay and that did not change anything, how can i troubleshoot this problem?
Second problem is when cruising along above 40 i hear a loud howling from the front end, coasting with the clutch in it still howls, it doesnt pull to one side or another.
Thanks
fan could either be the fan itself or the fuse in the panel in the engine bay. Also the fan wont kick on unless the temp is high enough. I think stock setting is 195*. if the car is cooler than that the fan will never kick on.
The howl could be a wheel bearing. a howl in general is hard to diagnose though without more detail.

I resolved the fan issue, it was a bad relay!
The growling sound i believe is to be a wheel bearing, when doing about 50-60 it is good and loud, when i make a swooping left turn the sound is still there but whne making a swooping right turn it goes away, which side is the culprit? I have replaced a wheel hub on a 200 blazer and it made the same sound and have the same characteristics!
My 97 cavalier has a noise too. It's more like a vibration roar though. Is your noise like a roar?
if you turn left and its noisy it the right always opposite same with cv shafts.
