Hello all, newbie and first post.. I just purchased a 2004 Cavalier with 39,000 miles on it, it was a gentleman’s grandmothers who just used it to go to work and the grocery store. It’s from Illinois, so the underside is pretty rusty and my friend had to replace the brake lines to get it on the road again. It was running and driving beautifuly until I came up to a red light and it acted like it went into neutral. Now it will only go into reverse, nothing else. Some suggested adding transmission fluid so I added 2 quarts but it didn’t fix the problem. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Thanks for any and all help!!
Sounds like your forward clutch pack is shot, probably needs a rebuild.
Try www.car-part.com to find a used transmission in your area.
( Look for an "A" rating, low miles and a long warranty)
