Alright guys and girls, I ran a search and found this thread:

The guy pretty much describes my problem, but there doesn't seem to be an answer to it.
So here's a quick run down...
Car has been running like a champ. 2 days ago I jump in and throw it into gear, and the DRL relay starts clicking rapidly, the light in the dash does the same, and then slows to a steady blink. I check the bulbs with high beams and the driver's side is out. I swap out the bulbs and find the driver's side is actually still good, it just doesn't work. So I go to the parts store and buy a new relay for in the fuse box. I pop it in and get the exact same problem. Why?
I checked the headlight fuses (Blue ones) and they are both fine. Is there something else I'm missing? I've been part of this site for a while and I've seen threads like this before, but never saw a problem solver.
Sad thing is, it's inspection time, and the lights HAVE to work.
Please help? I appreciate it.

I have no manual or diagrams for your year of car but--
Try this website (At your own risk of course!) for instructions on disabling DRL's, in the Pontiac Sunfire instructions you may find enough info to fix your problem.

It would seem that many systems lose one headlight with part of the DRL circuirt disabled with a fault.

I read through that site and they seem to have alot of different options to choose from. I'll try what pertains to my car. Although, I'm really not trying to kill the DRL's, I'm just trying to fix them.
But if killing them all together is the answer, well so be it.

Okay, here's what I did this week...
-Replaced and upgraded highbeams to SilverStars. Driver's highbeam is still out. Swapped bulb and bulb is good.
-Replaced relay in the fuse box. Driver's highbeam is STILL out.
-Replaced relay under the hood behind the front bumper. Driver's highbeam is STILL out.
So what else is there? I need to get the car inspected by the end of the month, and I'm running out of time. What am I missing???

Most likely its your hi-beam wiring harness. Considering you checked everything else.
I have the same problem. A lot of the time the wiring harness becomes corroded due to spillage from windshield fluid when pouring.

Huh?...... I thought I started at 9:47am........not 8:00am....
Basically it's like this. There's a microprocessor in the instrument gauge cluster (that's for pre 2K) that senses if the lights are on or off. If they're off, it turns the DRL relay on and makes the high beams into a series circuit. What I mean by this is the right side high beam is connected to +12V and the left side high beam is connected to ground and the relay and wires go in between them. When the microprocessor senses the lights are on the relay switches back and the high beams are now in parellel, meaning each bulb is connected to +12V and a common ground is through the headlight switch. So I would guess your problem in in the wires connected to your drivers side bulb. Theres must be a break in the harness somewhere or the connector is worn / burned out.

I am having the EXACT same problem as you with. It started happening after I washed the car with one of those coin pressure washers.
I took a quick look under the hood, and there is a DRL relay thing near the front where in my case water might have gotten to it.
I am probably going to get it checked out this week sometime. Let me know if you get it resolved.

I got my problem fixed. It was a wiring problem near the DRL module (i think that's what it is) in the front.
I had the same problem with my DRL's. The dash light would blink and I wouldn't have any DRL's or highbeams. I checked the BCM, relays and replaced the headlights without any success. The only thing that was left was the wiring.
Under your battery is where there is splice in the line for all your wires. One wire gets spliced for the DRL's for both headlights. So one wire runs from the inside of the car to underneath your battery. Then there is a splice that goes to both headlights. When we got to the splice in the line we saw that the one for the DRl's was completely corroded. It fell apart in my hand. My friend and I cut out the bogus wire down and soldered the wires together and viola working DRL's. I believe it was a pink wire (main) that had to be soldered to the two headlight wires (pink and orange if I remember correctly).
I hope this fixes your problems guys. I was glad when I got my DRL's and highbeams working again.

I'm having the same problem on my 2000 Z, but with my lowbeams. I had a leaky battery about 2 years back that I had to replace. I'm guessing it shorted out the wires underneath it?

Could be. Those wires are directly underneath the battery. It's worth a shot I would say.

mike: have you made sure its not your bulb that is out? sometimes it may look like the filament is intact, but the bulb may still be bad.

How I am having the same problem with my 96 sunfire my driverside light is dim or sometimes no light at all but on my passengerside its bright and also when I turn on my brights it doesnt seem bright enought for the brights.
