When I push the brake pedal it slowly sinks not all the way to the floor but pretty far. The brake doesn't engage until its almost all the way down. When I pump the brakes really fast it builds a little pressure. Do you think its the master cylinder? Brake lines expanding? Or do our cars have a brake booster? Its a 2000 z24 btw. Fluid levels are good and it doesn't leak. I also bled the brakes to try to get rid of the problem and it got better for a few days. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

yes, they have break boosters.
Have you taken off the cap to your resivoir recently? That will let in air and trap air in your fluid... and bleeding your calipers and drums wont help, you'll probably need to bleed the master, if thats the problem.

A good way to check the brake booster is to depress it while the car is off, then start the car. If the brake goes down a little the booster is ok. your symptoms sound like you need a brake system bleed and adjustment. take it to the brake guys or get a one man bleed kit from autozone. its not hard. hope this helps

Sounds like its time to flush the brakes with some new fluid. I like the Valvoline synthetic fluid myself (relatively cheap and it has much higher boiling points than the regular stuff).
If you bleed the brakes properly and your still depressing it almost all the way to the floor (or having to pump it) I would inspect the front brakes and then consider replacing the brake master cylinder.
this might be unusual but try to switch your abs relay to blower relay. then, drive it for 15 minutes and observe if the braking presure on the brake pedal. if your brake pedal become normal after switching the relay. then you need to buy a new abs relay.

What does ABS have to do with brake pedal pressue? If ABS is engaging when it shouldn't you would definatley know it.

Thanks guys. I can tell you this... I haven't opened the cap since I last bled the brakes a few months ago. I did put in the valvoline synthenic by using the one man bleeder kit. Before the car is started I have firm pressure. I start the car and it sinks pretty far down. If I pump it really fast it will build a little pressure but then it goes away pretty quick. What would it feel like if the master cylinder needs replaced? Thanks for you help!

have you checked your shoes? worn shoes will cause extended pedal travel. They are supposed to self adjust but most of know that is b/s.

Hum I'll check the shoes. I noticed my ebrake is all the way up but doesn't fully engage. Heh I feel retarded backing it up and hitting the brakes like the manual says to. I've never had it self adjust.
