Ever since I have got my 2000 cavalier, less then a year ago. I have been loosing oil like no other . I just had an oil change about 2 weeks ago and when I checked it today it was damn near empty. It is a 2.4 and only has 32000 miles on it. I cant figure it out. Either I have a leak or its burning. anyone else have/had this problem? or can you atleast tell me what could be the problem.....
Thanks guys
Also could the Oil have anything to do with the idel of the car? Once I noticed that it was low on oil I recognized that it would idel at 2000 at a stop sign then drop to 1500 when I was completly stopped.
check one of your parking spaces before you pull in all the way and look for any liquids on the ground . check it later and see if there anything new down there. do you have any smoke coming out your tail pipe? blueish white? black? none? check you coolant see if theres any oil in there.? did you change the oil yourself? did you wait until the car had set for a little while or as soon as you got off the road?
After I parked it tonight, I put some carpet under the engin. So if there is a leak then it should be there tomorrow.
No smoke that I can see
No a auto machanic did the oil change
But it has sucked oil since the day I got it 25000 miles
Its like befor I press the clutch it is at like 1500 then once the clutch is pressed it goes the 2000 then once I stop it goes back down to 1500RPM
do a oil tracer kit and see if it is your head gasket. I had the same problem with my POS neon right before I found out it was my head gasket. so that might be it
Put cardboard under it. That will make it easier to diagnos how much your loosing every time you park it. Also, if your losing that much, there almost has to be some oil residue somwhere on your engine.
this is my post by the way! I just changed my name.lol.
I was cleaning the engin today and took the BIG rubber hose going into the air box, i noticed some oil in the hose but none in the air filter. THE big hose is connected to a black thing on the engin in front(dont know name) I took that off and it plugs into a LITTLE hose and goes down into the engin. Anyone kno why i have oil in there?
Are you talking about the resonator?

The black thing in the picture that says '2200 SPI" on it?
If so, the little hose that goes into the engine is essentially the replacement for the PCV valve (or at least that's what it is on my car). If there's oil in the resonator, air intake, or that hose, I think that means it could be plugged. You can find a replacement for under $5 at an auto parts store, I'm not sure that would account for the volume of lost oil you're talking about though.
thats always a good surprise, intake full of oil
