I opened up my hood alil bit ago and i noticed this small spot on me aluminum air intake and it was almost as if its melting or something is making it eat away. I only noticed the one spot. What is the cause of this/solution???
Is the intake wrapped/painted?
I don't own a 2.2, but I think the intakes sit right on the heads, don't they? It's probably the wrap...

its not painted or anything just aluminum, I have it on a 2.2l 95 sunfire.....
I have no such problem with my 2.2l. Maybe you got some battery acid on there or something.
maybe...i dont know how though....it looks like something got on it and started to eat it away, the tube is thin so i hope it doesnt worsen....
Glad mines Stainless Steel....
I got mine off ebay for 44 bux shipped i think....didnt feel like paying 200 for one
you sure it is "melting" it takes some very high heat to melt aluminium,,, you sure it isn't rubbing the hood? post some pics

maybe its chaffed and then started to corrode?
from what i see, you answered your own question, it is rubbing on the hood padding, either remove that, and it might clear, or you can "smash" your intake tube a little, for lack of a better word, thats what i did to get my old cheapo intake to work,,, or you can ponie up for a qualitie intake from www.rdfabs.com who will be around 100 bucks... and they back their work, i highly recomend them.... but it is defently rubbing....
