Low oil pressure light coming on

I don't konw if it's happen to any of you but sometimes when I drive the low oil pressure light comes on, stays on, and then shuts off. It doesn't do this regularly so I don't know what it can be.
Yes, I check the oil to make sure its topped off. So can this be the oil pump going? Or is it something else? It's a 98 Cav 2.2L Auto w/122K miles. Thanks.

same thing happened to me, although i dont know if it will be the same problem for you.

you need to either jack your car up, or squeeze under it, and check the side of the oil pan. you will notice near the bottom/side corner of the oil pan near the tranny pan, there will be a wire with a power connector on the end that plugs into the hole on the oil pan.

what happened to me was my check engine and low oil press. lights kept comming on, and after a few weeks i got my car on a lift to clean off the grease underneath and noticed the wire was just hanging there. i guess it got pulled out when i went over somthing. the wire is usually tied up, but when the tie breaks it hangs like an inch below the oil pan.

check that, and if its unplugged then that is your problem. if not, repost here and i will try to help you further.

CaliforniaCavalier's suggestion is certainly top priority.
( I'll cross my fingers for you ! )

Pulling the pan to see if the oil pump pick-up screen
is partially clogged would probably be next.
