i wouldnt think its the plugs, Bosch plugs are actually pretty good. They shouldnt give you a problem. I'll see what i can think of and get back to you

thanks for the help . ive modded my car a little bit its got the full header,cat-back exhaust
on it and after about amonth after installation i was told that i needed to get an o2 simulator becuase i was throwing codes.that fixed that problem. however afew months later a lot of backfiring began not the really hard just afew claps here and ther but now they seem more frequent.and im always pulling code # 420(catalyst system efficiency
below threshold-bank 1) and i get code# 133(upstream heatedo2 sensor circuit high
voltage-bank1,sensor1) code 133 only came on once in awhile. i recently changed the front o2 on the headers. but still throwin codes and backfiring . taken it to a few shops
also but was a waste of money for no real answers or problems solved. mabye the timing ive got 92000k's on her now . hopefully someone can help me out !

Do you mean the popping when downshifting? My 04 cavalier has done it ever since I got my magnaflow cat-back exhaust, now its even louder with my header back exhaust.

just a lack of back pressure really...try getting a resonator installed if it really concerns you...

I have the same thing going on with my car. I think it is because of what DropTopPaul said. I even have a resonator, 14" long, and it still does it. Probably because the exhaust is free flowing.

thanx for the info everyone ! yes my car does the popping backfiring thing on downshifting so is this is common thing for those of us with complete exhausts? does a resonator help at all or does it just make the exhaust sound different.i dont want to really change anything on my exhaust its sounds awesome, like i got a v6 under the hood or something and the popping and @!#$ ruins it. i also thought that backfiring is no good for a car. but if popping and clappping is normal and wont hurt my ride then i guess its theres nothing to worry about or is there....?

My 93 sunbird did that with stock exhausts. It all depended on the driving style to cause the sound.

how do you mean driving style ? it dont seem to matter how i drive it still makes those sounds. is it cuase of to low of rpm before i shift?cuase ill be honest im not sure what are decent shift points for modded 2.4's i usually just shift around 3000-3500 rpm sometimes 4000rpm mabye im been a pussy with my car i dont know ?what do you guys shift at?
