I heard that you can tune a stock engine to do a lot more then it's sold to do, if you know what I mean; no mods, just tuning.. anyone know how, what I would have to do or where I would have to take it?
For example I heard a stock 2.2 ecotec can put out almost 180hp stock. I would love to know how.

Spend a few thousand dollars on a Tech 3 computer system
mmmmm 180hp without changing anything except computer...to bad it would cost out the ass...
Dario I would believe what Darkstars says dude he REALLY knows what hes talking about
if it ain't broke...MAKE IT GO FASTER
tech 3 hasnt came out yet i thought??

Tech 3 is what GM has.

I talked to Johnny Mack about the Tech 2 when he was using it on his turbo Z24. I think he might still be using it. It's a fine piece of equipment
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
Tech 3 has been out for years
Google -Electromotive-
And GM has a Tech 2 which I don't think is anything like what Electromotive offers. The Tech 2 is a disgnostics computer/troubleshooter that reads almost all computer controlled GM cars.
An electromotive tech 3 is a complete stand alone system and the Electromotive Tech 2 is its predececer (sp.) or its older technology.
A Electromotive Tech 3 is probably at the equivilant of a Motec or AEM EMS system with less bells and whistles.

GM is coming out with a tech 3 and should be out "soon" but they have been saying that for quite a while now.....i thought he was meaning the tech 3 diagnostic tool
Theres no way you can get 180hp out of just a remap (this is what you're talking about, right?)... Just tuning the software can give you maybe +8bhp tops.
Ta, Paul.
gm mechanics use a tech to for what he said do diagnose lights and codes not for tunning
It's possible to make more power from a simple tune on any engine, but from what I've seen, these particular engines don't really have much to offer just fom reflashed software. The Quad motors atleast have the option of altered cam timing with the use of aftermarket gears, but there's no VTEC or other variable valve timing type control, and the 2.2 engines, well, you're stuck. No distributor means no timing advance unless you go through the ECU and there's no programing tool available for the average user. Gotta send it in and that's a pain. The basic reason for doing a retune of the ecu is to alter fuel and timing maps, but unless the engine is capable of taking in more air the increased fuel will only cause rich conditions. Even if you have a better intake, the engine needs to be able to get rid of the exhaust so along comes mods for that. Just reflashing the ecu for a stock motor will maybe net 5hp at the wheels, and you can get that for a fraction of the price with simple bolt-ons. An AEM or similar ecu unit will run at least a grand even if you have connections to get it on the cheap, and dyno time to tune it right aint cheap either.
"Silly cluth, glazing is for donuts!"
there was an article somewhere about a bone stock eco tuned on an engine dyno (not the full car just teh engine on a bench) and they did get ALOT of power... if i recall it was 170-180 hp
