Lost Speed
Thursday, December 01, 2005 9:44 AM
I was wondering what happened to my car. I ordered the upper and lower motor mounts and the auto trans interceptor and my car seems to be slower than it was before. I lost to a 2003 Cavalier LS Sport ecotec 5-speed and another 2003 Cavalier base model ecotec 5-speed . The weird thing is ive beaten them before. My car also has a 21/2 inch exhaust and the filter on the end of the intake. Theirs just have mufflers in place of their stock ones. Whats the deal?

Maybe they've gotten better at driving. Also, if you've been racing them before your 2 1/2" exhaust, that could be your issue. Your interceptor and mounts do very little as far as performance and could really show no negatives from them being put on.

By the way, you're racing cars that run mid 15s against your car that is more than likely in the 16s area (take it from someone who has an auto and has been in your position and farther). I have beaten a couple manual ecos but only from a roll and with my current modifications.

Well if you raced the same people before either they had a bad launch then or they simply got better at driving stick. One of the benifits of a stick is leaving the line at a higher rpm.

since you didnt put anything in your reg , or tell us what car you have

but either way that doesnt matter , 90% of the manuals will run about 3/4's of a second faster than the the same model with a auto trans

A they didnt know how to shift , and got better

B the have more they arent telling you

C you have a problem

D all of the above

D sounds good to me

What modifications did these cars have Adam? And who may i ask ?

Your car runs low 16s correct? That is slower then most stock 5 speed eco's.
And from a roll , autos have less of a chance. Ask Ad1kTeD 2 SpE3d, when we race from a roll , he has no chance, and i have barely any performance mods.

^^ ^^

Did you bring your car to the dealership recently? They might have reflashed your system. Your car might have been running too long and had heat soak or it was too cold. It might have been just they way you raced. Becuase I know with my LS Sport automatic, with intake mounts, and exhaust ran a 15.5 without the shiftplus- because im an idiot and forgot to turn it on. I can beat a manual from a stop, but when i try to race them while moving he beats me. Its all because of the gearing.

Did you race from a roll? Or a stop?

I'm not at liberty to say who I raced or not, that's why I left it as is.

As far as my 1/4 mile times goes, I haven't been to the track in a long time...last time I ran, I ran 16.0 and that was before I made some changes.

I have a 2002 Cavalier Z24 2.4L . Ive had my 21/2 inch exhaust since i bought my car and seems to give me more power than lose it. I raced an eclipse with my car completly stock and lost and once i put the exhaust on, i beat him by about 1 to 2 cars. What changes do you think i should make? I hate losing, espectially to them.
