well, went to fill my coolant system last night, and as i started adding the dexcool, it started pissing fluid from the face of the radiator. looks like a decent size hole. i think its from when we were welding my headlight brackets
so now i need a new radiator.
my question is do the 95-05 J's use similar radiators? or do i need one specific for the 03-05(eco). and also, do they really cost $300+ ? autozone listed them on their website for $327 i think it was.....that just seems rediculous to me.
is it beneficial to jusy pony up and get a new one, or could i grab a used one from a yard?
thanks in advance.
and also....do you guys do the 50/50 coolant and water, or strait coolant?
If he can get this going
High Flow Radiator it would be a lot better deal.
Eco radiator is specific for your car. Check out E-bay for a better price if you need one now.
Personally I don't like the Dexcool but I do run a 50/50 mix.

Thanks John!!! very much appreciate the info!
eco has a different radiator than the others
the ohv and 2.4 use the same radiator
so far the best price ive found is $184 locally, and $127 plus shipping on the web. prolly get it locally since i dont wanna wait a week to get it
yes, eco's are different, and I would only get one out of a local yard if going that route. I wouldn't trust a junk yard to properly package a rad. for shipping. we have a company, performance radiator (i dont know if they are national or not) that has some good prices on good stuff. The performance in the name does not mean that these are performance parts....just standard replacement. As far as coolant goes you HAVE to run 50/50, running it straight will eat away at your motor. I am not a big fan of dexcool myself, as it has a tendancy to turn into MUD way before the recomended changing. You also shouldn't run the green stuff.
Dexcool not only is extended life, but is made specifically for multi-metal engines (iron block-aluminum head) to not interact with the metals, running green stuff will deteriorate the metals in your motor faster. I would recomend the Prestone Big Yellow. It is made to work in mix & match engines, but doesnt have the sludge build up that dexcool has.
^^^actually the prices i posted are for new radiators. i dont think i wanna bother with a used....and i doubt i could find one locally. its impossible to find eco's in the yards around here
but thanks for that info as well!
one more question...i notice for the 03 they dont ask a mm size, but 04 they ask wether its 16 or 24mm core thickness
would the 03 be 16??
dont know for sure, but if given the option, I would go with the thicker core....thicker = more coolant capacity = better cooling. I dont think 8mm is anything to sweat over, and shouldnt give you any interference with the fan, or condenser.
id get the 24mm , bigger is better cooling
