header question
Thursday, December 20, 2007 7:49 AM
I have an 05 cavalier......Does the little downpipe they come with connect to the Cat? Or do you need another piece. I know there are some headers that replace the cat.....But I really don't want that! Is there a 4-2-1 Header that does not come up first and also does not replace the cat? Do they make the exhaust note change?

The headers I know of:

4-1's
Pacesetter = Decent but get the Armor Coated one ($230 TTR)
OBX = Pacesetter ebay knockoff (I think)
DC Sports = very nice ($375 TTR)

4-2-1's
RKSport = very nice and expensive, comes up first ($450 RKSport.com)
Tsudo = RKSport ebat knockoff, comes up first (I think)
Weapon R = Decent and replaces Cat ($245 NEA.com)

Add/Edit the list through posting!

Well I know my Bill and Stans downpipe connected right to a cat. It is also a 4-2-1 header. Good luck finding a 4-2-1 that does not have that initial "up" bend then come back down. I don't know of one that doesn't. Anytime you change anything on your exhaust it will change to tone of it.

I suppose you can add the bill and stans to the 4-2-1 and its the most expensive.

The pacesetter is the #1 seller for the Cavalier/Sunfire. The downpipe connects to the stock exhaust just before the cat converter.

Ok so lets get this straight, before and after the Cat there are like 4" pipe pieces welded to the Cat. And on the other sides of those pieces there is bolt spots (Yes I have a CatBack on one side hehe) And on the other side there is the bolt spot is where the downpipe bolts up to right????

Yes Im a noob, thats all there is to it!!

But if this information is correct then I am purchasing the Armorcoated Pacesetter Header/downpipe tonight!!!

The header down pipe "slips" over the stock exhaust. The downpipe does not bolt up to the cat, as there is not a flange before the cat to bolt to.

So after the exhaust manifold bolt spot, there is no bolt spot until after the cat?? I think I got that right........So then how do you tell where to cut your stock dp off at?

The Pacesetter header kit comes with instructions, and it states exactly where to cut.

Yeah the instructions are great and correct too. Frankly this was the easiest header I've ever installed as it took about 90 minutes in my driveway with hand tools. The armorcoated one is def. the way to go too in terms of longevity, engine bay temps, and looks too.
