I have a 98 sunfire with the 2200 and just got my header today. After reading the instructions and doing a search I realized I might have to modify it. My sunfire has the flange style cat. Not the weld on. Has any one else run into this and how did you solve it. I cant afford to take it to an exhaust shop. Im just trying to figure out what needs to be done before I crawl underneath. THanks for any help.

Don't let the punks get to you. If they can't say anything helpful its because they probably
have VERY LITTLE IF ANY MECHANICAL SKILLS . Talking crap is just their way of hiding that
fact. They figure the more crap they say the less likley anyone will know how dumb they are.
My problem was the coating on my header made the pipe the exact same size as the factory pipe where you slpice in, I had to take it to the exhaust shop, have them LIGHTLY expand the end of the pipe, and once it was on, I welded it.....its for sale, cat & all, you should have bought that one....direct plug & play...
But after I did all that, never had a problem with it. If you didn't get the armour coating, you MIGHT be able to cut the stock pipe & slide the pacesetter pipe over it....MAYBE...
Actually from re-reding your post....You do realise that you CUT your factory front pipe, and ATTACH the pace setter header to it. What I said above is what I did, and it gave me NO problems (except for a manifold stud backing out on me -- but that wouldnt have happened if I used locktite) for the entire time I had it on my car.
THanks man. I do realize about cutting it but the problem is I heard there are 2 cat setups. The weld on ones that started in 98 and the ones that have a flange on both sides of the cat. This last setup was used until mid 98. I guess the 95-97 header has the downpipe for this one. My car was has the second cat setup so I was wondering if there is even enough pipe tocut down there? Or should I return my header and get the older one.

if your car is a 98 use the 98-02 header. Easiest thing to do is to install the header and them mock up the downpipe and see where it matches up to the stock exhaust. Cut it a little long and install the downpipe..i just took mine to the muffler shop and they finished it and welded it up for next to nothing..Its a very easy thing..youll see when your down there..phil
I will take a measurement tonight on mine, and send it to you....that way you will know for sure before you get under there. If you have to send it back to get the right one....so be it. I will sell you mine pretty darn cheap with the cat already in place if you do. But I will measure that tonight for you and let you know.
