Sorry it's my second rod question of the day, but I've been having so many bottom end issues, it's not even close to funny anymore.
I know for the stock 2.2L Ecotec rods the torque spec is 18 ft/lbs then 100 degrees, but what about using Eagle's forged H-beam rods? They say to use the stretch method, but I really can't see how one could get a stretch gauge in there to measure. Adding to confusion, GM's race team handbook (orange piece of garbage) says 45 ft/lbs, and the 2.0L handbook (blue/black cover) says 35, back off, 35, back off, then 65, but both of these are for the 2.0L rods.
So, for those that have used these rods, what spec are you guys using? The way I installed this in my Fiero makes it insanely easy to remove the oil pan, so I have a strike or two.
Thanks again fellas! My project would fall on it's ass more than it has if it wasn't for the help I've gotten so far from everyone here at JBO.
When I did my eagle rods with the arp moly assembly lube I did mine at 28ft. lbs. That is what my paper said to do for mine.
You put the eco in a fiero? I've been doing the same thing! are a lot of people doing this now? It immediately seemed like a logical swap to me.
I must have an earlier set of rods with sucky instructions... go figure. Thanks for the help guys!
Yeah, I found out that with the Fidanza flywheel, and taking 6 lbs off the stock crank, the Ecotec is 50 lbs lighter than the 2.5L duke that came stock. Then relocating the battery to the front shifts another 30 lbs, so it basically shifts the weight balance from 46/54 to 48/52, and brings the weight below 2500 lbs.
