factory intake question
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 1:56 PM
anyone know what the diameter of the factory intake tube is? this is on a 97 sunfire with a 2.2L. Im looking at buying one of those cheapie cone filters on ebay to replace my dirty stock one. i found some that have a 2", a 2.75", and a 3" opening. what size should i get? thank you.

i got a 97 with a 2200 and i got one exactly like this
http://cgi.ebay.ca/RED-CLEAR-RACTIVE-AIR-INTAKE-FILTER-3-TORNADO-NEW_W0QQitemZ370033825899QQihZ024QQcategoryZ38634QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

except its blue, it is by ractive, and its 3". it takes some work to get it on, but eventually it fits...be nice if there was a 3.25" one, that would definatly fit better...

1. pull our old airbox. its not hard.
2. clean your engine bay, that one makes mine look clean.
3. pvc emits toxic fumes when heated. get yourself a cheap ebay intake.
4. CLEAN YOUR ENGINE BAY.
5. the plastic around the filter actually impedes your flow, get rid of it. in fact, that filter is tiny. get a decent k&n and be done with it.
6. did i mention to clean your engine bay? this should be on your top list of priorities.

lol, i just bought the thing last week. give me a break its a filter i had laying around too...ill be picking up a bigger one when ever i get around to putting in the pvc tubing. im going to be removing the remainding of the airbox this week sometime. i just put it together quickly before i went out of town. the plastic around the fitler is easily taken off with a star screwdriver, again...just waiting for the time to do it. and finally....im swapping out the entire motor with my other one this summer/when this one dies, which ever one comes first. not going to make a whole lot of effort in cleaning it up nice nice

anyone know if you can slip one of those tiny valve cover breathers on that little nipple sticking out of the valve cover if you replace the intake tube?
