MadJack wrote: For the oil pump, get a '93 or older oil pump. Melling part number M98 (NOT the M98HV), available from your Adavance Auto Parts, Autozone, etc, for about $56. Get the coresponding pick-up to go with it. It will give you approximately 10% more oil flow and run 80psi cold / 52psi hot at cruse a rpm of 2750. This pump is more than sufficiant for all but the most extreme application or really excessive bearing clearance.
Most boosted applications are using the Blazer fuel pump conversion.
ok i searched and found that the older pumps will give you more flow, but why not use the HV pump? does High Volume just mean that the pump is designed for thicker oil or does it mean that it will produce more flow?
Hello. A month ago I bought the high volume oil pump form Import Performance Parts for my 1992 2.2 ohv and the one they sent me didn't fit. After installing the oil cooler and runing high compression, my stock pump is enough? That's what I am understanding reading this thread, so I'll be ok just with a new stock one?. Thanks.
Sidney
cool thanks madjack that answered my question, you always chime in with great information!
Hmmm... One wonders what could result from running the high-volume pump with stock clearances and, oh say, 0w-20 or 0w30 oil in the winter. Most I can see is a need for a larger capacity pan so it don't run dry.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
