Exhaust size

What size exhaust stock does a z24 have or a ls sport? will it bolt directly to my 04 ecotec? Reason asking is, I want to run straight pipe past the cat and add a 4in tip. I want to go 2.5 so if those cars have that, I can do all this stuff myself instead of taking it to a shop

its all the same size, regardless of engine or model.

ps. a 2.5 inch straight pipe from your cat will sound like garbage.

QFT

all sizes fit, stock piping diameter is 1 7/8".... but back to you using a straight pipe...I don't care where you live...your neighbours will hate you, the cops will charge you and you will be deaf...straight pipe is worse than a fart cannon...good luck with that

Ill probably end up having him run me a straight pipe first to see how it sounds, and if I dont like it, ill have him weld me a magnaflow up there.

Im not worried about cops, I live in a small farm town where 4 out of every 5 trucks are running straight pipes. Oh, and screw the neighbors.

Re: Exhaust size

probably gonna run like crap too. and more than likely throw codes

Re: Exhaust size
Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:34 PM
how would I throw codes???

Re: Exhaust size
Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:41 PM
well if u run straight pipe u lose the o2 sensor on the cat which would make the car think its not gettnig the appropriate amount air to fuel. which in turn throws a code

oh, so I guess you must have missed when I said I was going to run a cat BACK

Re: Exhaust size

well when normal people say straight pipe, which normally goes on something alot more powerful then our cars (such muscle cars), they mean straight from the headers. not after the cat.

Re: Exhaust size

Im not retarded, I just shortened it up since I already mentioned I was keeping the cat, so if I kept repeating myself, it would be a waste of time. Like explaining this to you what I meant, is a waste of time.

Re: Exhaust size

if you do it correctly it will sound decent. if you do a hack job it will sound like crap.
2.5" cat-back will be decent. mainly depends on the muffler? im assuming you dont plan on one? it will be just like that straight piped honda most people cannot stand. raspy, loud, annoying, and not practical.

just throw a muffler on with it and thank us later.

I disagree im running 2.5 straight pipe header back with a cheap ebay muffler for now and it sounds pretty descent deep toned and not to raspy, it actually sounded worse when i had a magnaflow on it now that was really raspy.maybe its due to my mods there basic bolt ons intake, header, rksport crank pulley, comp stg 1 cams.

well good luck with this...4 cylinder + no muffler + no resonator = raspy ass rice sounding piece of @!#$....most likely will sound worse than a 1.6 L Honda Civic engine with a fart cannon on it.

Re: Exhaust size

Honestly, I had meinike cut the resonator and muffler off and put 2.5 inch pipe in its place, although I still have most of the factory exhaust tubing still in place. It is LOUD! And raspyness, only after 5 grand... It gave me a descent pep as well, I guess where I still have some backpressure there. It sounds WAY deep. I am happy with the results, but I paid like 250 bucks to have them do that, I guess you get what you pay for!?

98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.

lol I payed less than 250 to get my custom magnaflow setup....no raspiness, doesn't drone on the highway...doesn't piss off my neighbours, I don't sound like a ricer...but sadly...I guess everyone has their own opinion on what is good or bad

Re: Exhaust size

My friend got his resonator and muffler cut off his svt focus. It sounds really good. Its a little on the loud side and could be annoying for some. but its not that bad in the car.

Frankly I dont know why you guys give a damn what your neigbors think, screw them, what have they ever done for you, unless they have done stuff for you then nevermind.

common courtesy? wtf is wrong with people today? would you want to be woken up at night by some stupid loud cavalier?

god knows if my neighbor did that i would have a few words with him.

but by all means, in the end your not my neighbor so run straight pipe for all i care.

have fun getting laughed at by anyone that has half a brain when it comes to modding sport compacts.

yeah i just moved bout a year ago. i have my loud sunfire here and i dont care cuz my neighbors here suck. something i wouldnt have done at the old house, cuz my neighbors were nice on the other side of town. like your neighbors? dont do it. itll sound like a ricey fart pipe anyway. you could run straight pipe from header (or manifold), weld in the o2 sensor, then a resonator, then it might sound half decent without pissing people off. but its totally up to you man. its your car.

oops suppose to say "will it fit WELL, hard to say"...damn no edit feature.

Re: Exhaust size

If you don't care about sound then go for that kit. If you want it to sound good, go with 2.5 piping, 18"+ glass pack/resonator and an oval type muffler like a Dynomax Turbo/Super Turbo or a Magnaflow muffler. It will sound soo much better. Don't bother with the canister "straight-through" exhausts.

One of my friends thought it would be smart to do a straight pipe from the cat with a tip, sounded horrible and gave me a headache driving with him. He decided to toss on a resonator and a Dynomax, sounds stock pretty much till you open up the car.

Re: Exhaust size

That would probably be alright with a glasspack/resonator installed after the catalytic converter. If you want tostay with a stainless steel glasspack, try the Dynomax Thrush Stainless Steel Magnum Glasspack. Without the glasspack/resonator, it will probably be loud and raspy, just like most all the other cat-back systems out there.
