2200 OHV questions
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 9:18 AM
ok so i have a 2200 OHV and i was wondering a few things. i would like to know what are the possible gains for my engine with a CAI and a cat-back exhaust, how much possible power can i push out of the engine on stock block, what are some recommended mods and/or custom fab options for this engine, and whats the best way to go about making this engine better in general? Any help in these subjects along with other input (which i hope to get tons) would be great.
Thanks
Scott

You're not going to get much out of the ohv with bolt ons. First thing you need to do is figure out your power goals, and how much money you're willing to spend.. You have to pay to play.

I got some money to play just want to tinker with this engine before i swap it to the 2.4. was hoping to have a lil fun doin random things to it and see where it gets me.

Why?

If you're going to swap put the money towards that. Unless you boost or nitrous the 2.2 you will not be faster than a stock 2.4.

Don't waste your money if you're really going to swap the car.

agreed, if swapping is in your plans, save and do that.

I also want to add, I'm not anti 2.2 by any means. This is just logic.

I happen to like the 2.2 for its super simplicity and the fact that they're cheap as hell if you grenade one.

My 2.2 experience runs deep.

Get a highflow cat. You can use it on the 2.4 too. Either that, save, brakes, or suspension. Don't waste money on a motor your swapping unless the parts can swap over. And in this case they can't. I would go ahead and start colecting the parts for your swap now.

Don't let the punks get to you. If they can't say anything helpful its because they probably
have VERY LITTLE IF ANY MECHANICAL SKILLS . Talking crap is just their way of hiding that
fact. They figure the more crap they say the less likley anyone will know how dumb they are.

2200 stock block holds as much as you can throw at it.. if you look at some of my previous builds you can see extreme 2.2 work and it is only netting us 200 whp n/a

guess i will just focus on looks then since there really isnt any aftermarket in the 2200 o well ill wait on my 2.4 and then have fun. but Bob what did you do to make the 2.2 have 200hp n/a?

check the one thread. it had cam re-grind, shaved the head by quite a bit, and 2200 pistons in a 2.2 causing approx 20:1 compression, lol. that's one reason one of them blew up at least, lol.

full race build on 110 octane gave us 200 hp not streetable at all

damn i want that but still use it on the street. 200hp 2200 would be killer. i can only imagine if i would boost that where i would be at

The LN2 lacks the valve area needed to really breathe well enough to make Boku HP. Plus the best that can be had in the way of cams is regrinds of the factory cam, which don't allow much change from stock in the LDA dept. If money's fairly tight, like I'd guess it may be if you're lookin' to build-up a FWD econo-car, just take good care of the Double-Deuce in the meantime until you've got the cammer. Then let loose.

If you make the Z24 look like the 2.2, then you can play "Evil Twin" and really show everyone up!
