does the cylinder head have guide plates for the pushrods? If so then you have a pre 98 head found on the 2.2 not the 2200 ohv found on the 98-02 motors and It is not interchangeable. do you have any pics you could post up so we could help you out better.
Could also look at the combustion chamber and see if the hole is there for the coolant pipe....

Yeah hope for his sake it's a 2200, cause they are 2 totally different heads.
it will bolt up but if he is usint 2200 pistons he will have like 13:1 compression

and I actually think it is higher, in the 14-14.5:1 area. Plus I believe there will be some heartaches with some coolant passages.
