Supertech valve springs
Wednesday, March 04, 2009 6:25 PM
I am building a 2.2l Ecotec engine right now and I have come across a set of supertech valve spring, seats, retainers, and seals. The seller is telling me that they fit all ecotec engines including the 2.2l but I just want to make sure. The Part # is SPRK-EC3027 I believe that they do from the research that I have done but I just think it would be better to double check before I order them than to get them and realize that they are the wrong part.

Thank you JBO for your help you guys always have quick responses

The part number you gave is not one that super tech even stocks. The part number on the TTR website are the correct ones.

Who are you refering to? A business or a person?

It is a supertech part if you google it. He is from an ebay store. He has sent me an email a short while ago stating
"yes, that supertech valve spring kit is made specifically for the Ecotec engine. It will be a direct installation into your Ecotec cylinder head once you receive it."
The only reason I am concerned is that when I google the part I see that it also fits the LSJ Engine aswell. I am not sure if the heads are the same of not. The different part #'s are because of different spring pressures I believe.

Thanks

Take your chances I guess. However the part number we list is the one that has been installed on many ecotec cavalier's

BTW that part number you have is JUST the spring and retainers. Nothing else...

That is exactly what our part number is, springs and retainers. No seals...

What is the price, we maybe can match or beat it?

the price is $409.95 with the seals not including shipping. Let me know. Thanks

Seals do not come in that kit... Make him send you a picture of the kit to prove there are seals. He wont be able to... As they dont come with that part number.

We can do $374.99 + ship for the springs and retainers...

do you happen to have seals available at an additional charge? or know of where to get them? Ill see what he says to that. Thanks and i think i might deal with you instead

You can get them from a local auto parts store, or a GM dealer... We dont carry them. If you re use the stock valves, you may not need to replace the seals. If you put in new valves you should put in new seals...

good for the comp turbo cams.. skunk was running them and explained that when he added the springs he noticed quite a difference

I think the lift would be okay for the comp cams stage 1 and 2, turbo and supercharger grind...

For the stage 3 cams, Ferrea would be better, with their seat locators.

They are a very good choice, Ferrea is top of the line, but Super Tech makes a nice setup also for the price.

Are the valve springs from the LSJ compatable with the L61?
Re: Supertech valve springs

Yes, but again, the part number you are posting is not correct. We live around the ecotecs every day... I doubt this ebay seller has even touched an ecotec engine...

I just called supertech and they told me that these are for my engine but they are just the stronger springs (94 lb). I believe the ones that you sell are 76lb. I believe that new seats are required for double valve springs, are those available thorought you guys, if so how much? Your website lists a lower price than you gave me on here for the springs and retainers.
Re: Supertech valve springs

94 lb is over kill, 76 lb is more approperate...

94lb would be if you used the comp cams state 3 cams...

Now I realize what that other part number is...

Seat locators are not needed. They are not avaliable by super tech from what we understand...

Ferrea makes seat locators for the Ferrea springs, but they are optional also...

would it cause any problems or damage if i were to use 94lb springs on my car. Im going to be running 22psi and have a built lower end.

Re: Supertech valve springs

Higher spring rates may cause you to make less HP. Only get what springs you need. Bigger is not always better. Boost pressure does not mean you need higher rate springs...

If you have stock cams, there is no need to get better, higher rate springs...

Bates Engineering and HRC both told me that the valves would start to float around 16psi. I know GM uses 92 lb springs in their "sportsmans" engine

Hey Aaron would the 94# Supertech Eco valvesprings work with Quad4 HO head and valves, I ask because I'm running HG2 cams (224/224 - .430/.430) and HO springs 85# on the seat will be marginal at 8000 rpm.
Can you give me the dimensions of these springs as well as the installed height and coil bind figures?

Turbo Tech Racing wrote:Boost pressure does not mean you need higher rate springs...

Not in mild builds maybe. But what do you think the boost pressure is pushing against when the valve isn't being opened by the cam?

What spring rate you need depends MOSTLY on the cam you're using. Because the cam dictates how fast the valves are opening and closing and where in the RPM range the powerband is. So if you're using a wicked cam, and revving to high RPM on top of high boost, then you can make use of a pretty heavy spring. Things like bigger valves can also play into how much spring rate you need since you need a certain amount more stiffness to account for the heavier weight of the larger valve in addition to what the cam grind necessitates.

But it seems to me that if GM runs 92 lbs springs in a 500 hp+ motor (the "sportsman" IS in that ballpark, right?), than you're not going to need the 94 lb-ers... Without knowing what your ultimate goal for this engine is, I couldn't tell you what to use or not use.
