Just curious, As to where you guys bought your replacement engines. Some websites would be helpful. I'm looking to purchase a remanufactured engines within the next few weeks for my 1996 2.2 cavalier.
r u wanting another 2.2ohv? or a different motor?
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
Yeah, just want another 2.2 ohv
jasper...never had a problem with em
Yes, I checked with Jasper the other day, and they're out of my budget. For a reman engine, the price was 2207, and 1500 for installation. Way too much man. A company with whom i did some research, for a reman engine, the total cost is 2100, and that includes labor as well. Plus a 3 year warranty! So i believe i cant beat that. I'm going with this.
just get a wrecker engine and save yourself so much money
JBO since July 30, 2001
I got mine from a yard, got it decked, surfaced, cleaned, honed, painted, and new cam bearings.
It was like 140 from the yard
and like 550 worth of machining.
I feel I should say something here...
Be careful of whom you have do your engine replacement! A few years back, I had to get my '94's engine replaced & the lowest price I could find was a shop really far from me. The transport costs drove the total up to more than if I had it done locally. Then, to add to the fun... the chain in the new long-block failed after 35,000mi (A common problem with LN2 aftermarket replacement chains, since most don't meet GM factory standards). When I went to get it replaced... since it was still under warranty, about two years ago... I learned the shop went out of business. I ended-up replacing the chain-set myself with GM pieces... on a warm summer day, after it failed mid-winter & the replacement truck died in the driveway, refusing to start.
So in short, have it done locally by a trustworthy shop. Or you'll really pay.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
i bought a running, driving cavy for $350. now I have all sorts of replacement parts, spare motor (same as mine), and I have the 5 speed to swap out my auto AND everything I need to do it. just buy a "parts car". In my case, the car was perfectly good. so it all depends on what you consider a parts car to be.
