Is it worth it cutting out the cat and resonator on a 2.4? Or will it sound like a fart cannon? I have magnaflow muffler hat sounds great and smooth now. Thanks guys

Yes.

If you are looking for exhaust performance, you should get a full catback exhaust, then add on a high flow cat and header when you get the money. You wont gain much of anything by taking out the res and cat.

On our cars resonators are THE most important thing. It will remove most if not all fo the dreaded rasp. I got a 22 inch magnaflow resonator from ebay for $60. My car sounds absolutely amazing. No rasp very deep and mellow tone at all rpms

This is the truth and I also run a 22" magnaflow resonator with this same absolutely amazing sound.

So ditch the stock resonator and get a magnaflow for better sound huh. DO you guys still have your cats in place? What if I got the magnaflow resonator and cut the cat out?

still would sound raspy if you cut the cat. I am still running my stock cat. To be perfectly honest unless you are running some sick mods, like boost or have a fully built motor, ditching your cat won't do much but light up your Check Engine Light (CEL) and make your exhaust sound more raspy. It really comes down to what your plans are for the car. If you like the way your car sounds now, why touch it? If you want to make very minimal gains, upgrade your pipe size to 2.25" and put in a resonator after the cat. If you have the money, put in a header, use bigger piping, put in a performance cat from Magnaflow and a 18" or longer Magnaflow resonator along with your Magnaflow muffler and then you will have a bit more power. Please understand that the gains will be minimal still.

i had a 4-2-1 header, with a 25" glasspack and a chambered muffler (not a fart can) 3" the whole way, and most will agree my car sounded very good. A bit loud, but a turndown on the end of the muffler will help with that.

the biggest contributor to the 'ricey' sound is lack of a resonator/glasspack, and the fartcan style muffler. Run a chambered muffler and that will help a bunch. If you want to help even more, get the longest resonator you can fit.

removing the cat won't necessarily make it ricey, but without a long-ass resonator and a chambered muffler, prepare for it to be extremely loud and extremely raspy

i disagree Pj I think the "fartcan" style mufflers give our cars the best sound when coupled with a resonator, I never liked the sound a chambered muffler sound on our cars, then again its all an opinion... lol

lol, cut the cat and deffiinetly except some rasp,

I cut the cat off mine when i was doing a header install and had to jimmy rigged some @!#$ just to get the car over to my buddies place, (had to be moved, garage was sold), any time i got into to'er it was quite ricerry. Half way there I stomped on it and blew the jimmy rig off and had to drag it the rest the way hahahah.

Slopppy but its there,

But now that its @!#$ Im going to be doing a full exhaust and after hearing the stock exhaust without a cat I will most deffinetly be putting a Hi-flo cat in.
